V.Thavsumuthu Nadar of Poraiyar (Tanjore District) is from a distinguished and wealthy family of Landlords. He owned one of the biggest distillery firm of India in 18h century. His properties included 65 Banglows, 3 Ships and 15,000 acres of land in Tanjore and Nagai District!
S.P. Adithanar is the founder of DinaThanthi (the largest selling Tamil daily newspaper), was born in 1905 at Kayamozhi in Tirunelvelli district. He went to London in 1927 for a degree in Law. In October 15, 1942, he started Tamil daily news paper DinaThanthi at Madurai, which has today, a circulation of over one crore. The head office is in Chennai, and has branches in Trichy, Coimbatore, Salem, Tirunelvelli,, Vellore, Cuddalore, Pondicherry and Bangalore. The "Rani" magazine and "Malai Malar" (evening daily) are also publications of DinaThanthi. He was the founder of the "Naam Tamilar" party and was twice member of the Madras Legislative Council and four trems member of the "Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly". He was the Speaker of the Assembly during 1967-68 and Tamil Nadu's Minister for Cooperation in the M. Karunanidhi's government (1969 and 1971). He died in 24 May 1981.
